Top 10 Ways to Entertain a Child:

  1. Give them candy!
  2. Put on a movie.
  3. Play outside with the Frisbee — game off….game on…just for all the Canadians out there (we usually play on the street)!
  4. Give them your laptop for a while….although you may never get it back!
  5. Go swimming in Grandma and Grandpas’ pool – we are lucky that they are only a short drive from here.
  6. Somehow, a puddle, no matter the age, entertains for hours….as well as the bugs it attracts!
  7. Ice Cream!!! …..need I say more here?
  8. A visit to the bookstore, always some great finds and new adventures there!
  9. Talking about crazy things, creations, and facts.
  10. Cooking or baking….there will always (75% of the time), be some yummy results!

Lilas

1 Jun

Just a quick post to say that I have finished, blocked and sewn in the ends on my Lilas cardigan.

I think it is cute, and although I made the body a  little longer than the pattern called for, it is fashioned to go up in the back, so it is a “with jeans” sweater for me!

I used Estelle South Pacific for this, it blocked really well, and has lovely drape, I would recommend this yarn.

28 May

Alright…finally Friday!!

I have been working solo this week, but still have to work all day today and tomorrow, so no rest in site yet. This week has been stifling with the heat! I dread to think of what we will be in for in the mid-summer if it is like this now!  A little cooler today, but the humidity is still in the air…this makes it a great time for lightweight knitting!

I am finishing off Citron, and I will be glad when it is finished – 444 stitches is a little much, especially in stockinette stitch! I have brought it here with me to the store to work on, only about 10 rows to go, so hopefully will get done at somepoint today!

My next project is Brandywine, I think this will be a simpler knit, and again from the results I have seen on Rav. it turns out beautifully — not sure what yarn I will use for this yet though, that is what I will be choosing when I get home tonight.

Coffee awaits while it is still hot, so have a great day, hopefully with yarniness involved!

A Flowery Weekend

Almost the Weekend!

20 May

We are that much closer to the looooong weekend! We were at the garden center tonight, and it was one of those perfect evenings. Although maybe a little hotter than we would like for this time in May, it was a cloudless sky and the breeze was absolutely still. We picked everything we need up tonight, so that we don’t have to wrestle with the masses on Saturday and Sunday – and we got the best selection, they were just bringing out everything to fill in every possible space. Not sure what happens in your neck of the woods (…oh, that is soooo Al Roker), but here, this is the mecca or granddaddy weekend of the year for the nurseries, or garden centers.

I have taken the day off tomorrow to languish in my garden! This will entail digging over the beds, putting in new soil, and planting all of the lovelies that we bought. We bought marigolds, snapdragons, petunnias, salmon coloured geraniums, as well as peppers, and herbs, and a few perennials (Sweet William, Grasses).

I will end with that as Gray’s season finale is on in a few minutes, LOVE that show, I have watched it since day one, and have seen every episode. The rumour is that someone will meet their demise tonight, my thoughts are either McSteamy or Christina….or maybe it will be someone who has not been that significant, like an intern that we see once every 3 episodes…probably!

Only Wednesday??

19 May

It’s been one of those days, where I keep thinking it is later in the week than it is. Perhaps it is because we are approaching the long weekend in Canada — known as Victoria Day, which is the official start to summer here. Perhaps it is because people are frantically trying to get away from it all already — packing up to head to cottage country to open up the cottage. Not sure….but the weather today, certainly makes you WANT it to be the weekend! As I walked the little guy to school this morning, it was glorious — birds singing, not a cloud in the sky, and still winds, so peaceful….then I had to go to work.

As I opened my laptop a few minutes ago, the patio door just opened, Diet Coke in hand,  I heard a very summer-like sound, and couldn’t quite believe it…..the neighbours in the back just jumped into their pool?! Aww, come on, its only about 65 degrees, and was about 40 on the weekend! They are the type who live in their backyard from morning until night, the same age as us, bigger house (new development behind us), and built a mini-cottage-like structure as a bar out there!! I think the guy power washed for a total of 15 hours last weekend, and we have no idea what!! No joke!

Well, I digress! Back to the knitting front. Went out with the little one to Chapters (our bookstore) last night, and treated myself to these goodies last night.

Toe Up 2 at-a-time Socks, and Summer on Blossom Street  – I have read the others in the Blossom Street series, but waited for this one in paperback.

Hey..Knitted Squirrel…I know you could have taught me, but you are a 2 needle gal!!

So I am looking forward reading these goodies this weekend.

More tomorrow…hey! I am doing well!! n’est pas!?
